The United Kingdom has had a large impact on modern cinema and has one the most respected film industries in the world. The film is the first known instance of a projected moving image.
Incident at Clovelly Cottage , created in February 1895 , was the first British film was done by Robert W. Paul and Birt Acres . The early films were often melodramatic in tone , and there was a distinct preference for storylines which were already known to the audience , in particular adaptations of Shakespeare plays and Dicken's novels .
